Fire Safety Tips

Essential fire safety tips to protect your home and family.

Install Smoke Alarms

Place smoke alarms on every level of your home, inside bedrooms and outside sleeping areas. Test them monthly and replace batteries at least once a year.

Create an Escape Plan

Develop a fire escape plan with two ways out of every room. Practice it with all family members at least twice a year.

Kitchen Safety

Never leave cooking unattended. Keep flammable items away from the stove. Turn pot handles inward to prevent spills.

Electrical Safety

Don't overload outlets. Replace damaged cords. Use bulbs with the correct wattage for fixtures.

Heating Safety

Keep anything flammable at least 3 feet from heating equipment. Turn portable heaters off when leaving the room or going to bed.

Stop, Drop, and Roll

If your clothes catch fire, stop immediately, drop to the ground, and roll to extinguish the flames. Cover your face with your hands.
